The main focus of the NABI Foundation is education. Since 2003, the NABI College Scholarship Fund has donated over $75,000 in financial aid to Native American college students from all over North America. This fund was created to aid NABI alumni with the hopes of seeing a higher presence of Native Americans earning college degrees.
Program Objectives
• To inspire higher education to NABI alumni
o Grant financial aid to individuals in need
o Award mentoring grants to educational institutions that serve
NABI Alumni
NABI SCHOLARSHIP AND GRANT INFORMATION DEADLINES:
Spring semester is December 1st and fall semester is June 1st.
Applicants will be notified via USPS and/or email if one is provided.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Individual Requests: ONLY NABI athletes who participated in NABI Basketball, Baseball & Softball. Request must include year athlete participated, team and coach’s name. Grants request cannot exceed $1000 per year.
Educational Institutions: ONLY Native American Mentor programs that are serving NABI athletes are eligible. Grants can not exceed $5000 per year.
How to Apply & Guidelines
All requests must to be received in writing. No faxes or emails will be accepted.
Individual Requests
o Must include proof of enrollment to include an acceptance letter for the semester you are attending
o Copy of tribal membership
o Current college financial statement showing need
o Contact information for the financial aid dept. To include address to mail scholarship
o Year and Team name of when you participated in NABI Basketball, Baseball or Softball tournaments
o All funds not used for purpose granted, within 12 months of donation date, must be returned to the NABI Foundation.
Educational Institutions
o Must send copy of proposed mentor program, guidelines, budget and current donors
o Educational Institutions agree to submit a report identifying use of funds
o Grantee agrees not to use NABI funds for making 3rd party grants
o Contact information for the financial aid dept. To include address to mail grant
o All funds not used for purpose granted, within 12 months of donation date, mustbe returned to the NABI Foundation
Selection Process
In the case requests exceeds funding available; the NABI Foundation Board of Directors will be responsible for selection process and the awarding of NABI Foundation scholarships and grants. For ethical and accountability purposes, if an applicant has a tribal affiliation with any board member or a board member is an alumnus of applying educational institution, that board member will be exempt from the selection process.
